Mets No Longer Looking To Trade Colon

Apr 30, 2015 3:35 PM

The New York Mets have changed their stance on whether or not to trade Bartolo Colon, according to sources.

After winning 15 games in 2014, Colon is 4-1 this season with a 3.31 ERA.

New York signed Colon to a two-year, $20 million contract in December 2013. At the time, the thought was that he would merely be a place-holder for the club's younger pitchers.

Sources: Cubs Have Touched Base With Phillies On Hamels

May 1, 2015 4:16 PM

The Chicago Cubs have continued to touch base with the Philadelphia Phillies regarding Cole Hamels, according to Major League sources.

In addition to the Cubs, the Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers are also believed to be in the market for a starter.

Chicago is winning, which may make them more aggressive on the trade market as the midseason approaches.

"You're always thinking about that stuff," said Jed Hoyer, pointing out it's still too early to think too specifically. "You're at a stage where a two- or three-game winning streak or losing streak really changes your outlook in a hurry.

"But certainly we're hopeful that we're in that position. And we're obviously going to prepare as if that's the case."

The Cubs entered play on Thursday at 12-8 and two games back of the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Central.

Dodgers Were Involved In Hamilton Trade Talks

Apr 30, 2015 3:54 PM

The Los Angeles Dodgers were involved in trade talks before Josh Hamilton was dealt to the Texas Rangers, according to sources.

The Dodgers are believed to have discussed both a straight up trade and three-way scenarios that would have sent the outfielder to Texas, but they couldn't satisfy the Los Angeles Angels.

Los Angeles wanted to use some of their financial resources to gather prospects, not necessarily add Hamilton to their roster.

Phillies Send Manuel Out To Scout Red Sox

Apr 29, 2015 3:22 PM

The Boston Red Sox may still be the front-runners to land Cole Hamels in a trade with the Philadelphia Phillies.

The Phillies have sent Charlie Manuel, former manager and current executive, to Salem, Virginia to look at Boston's Carolina League club. Manuel Margot, a 20-year-old center fielder, is coming off a breakout season.

Margot is listed by Baseball America's No. 72 prospect.

A package built around Margot and a highly-touted pitching prospect -- Henry Owens, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brian Johnson -- may be enough for the Red Sox to land Hamels.

Phillies Willing To Pay Part Of Hamels' Salary In Trade

Apr 30, 2015 8:45 AM

Ruben Amaro revealed on Tuesday that the Philadelphia Phillies are willing to pay a portion of what is owed to Cole Hamels to facilitate a trade.

Hamels is owed $96 million through 2018, and possibly $110 million with his 2019 option.

"We are very open-minded," Amaro said. "We're not afraid to subsidize contracts. We never told a club that we would not absolutely subsidize his contract. That is not a realistic way to do business.

"If there's a deal to be made, and we have to subsidize part of it, we'll do it."

The Phillies have been looking for top-level prospects in return for Hamels.

Rangers, Angels Finalize Hamilton Trade

Apr 28, 2015 9:00 AM

Josh Hamilton is officially a member of the Texas Rangers once again.

The Los Angeles Angels have traded Hamilton to the Rangers for a player to be named or cash.

The Angels are expected to pay most of the remaining $80.2 million Hamilton is owed on his five-year, $125 million contract.

Hamilton never reported to the Angels this season after offseason right shoulder surgery. He self-reported a relapse of alcohol and cocaine use, but an arbitrator ruled he could not be disciplined by Major League Baseball.

Cardinals Will Try To Replace Wainwright From Within

Apr 28, 2015 9:00 AM

Adam Wainwright may miss the remainder of the season with an Achilles injury, but the St. Louis Cardinals have no plans to swing a major trade.

John Mozeliak says the club's first move will be to replace Wainwright from within the organization.

"If you get into May and early June and you don't feel like the internal options are the solution you were hoping for then you might have to look outside," the general manager said.

Tyler Lyons, Tim Cooney and Zach Petrick could all be short-term options to fill Wainwright's spot in the rotation. Marco Gonzales and Jaime Garcia, who are both injured, could help later on.
